The personal computers (PCs) market comprises of the sales of both desktop and portable PCs. Desktop PC is a personal computer in a form proposed for regular use at a single location. On the other hand, portable PCs include laptops, notebooks and netbooks, but does not include tablet PCs.
Today, the majority of consumers own, and use, at least three different types of devices in mature markets. Among these devices, the PC is not a high primacy device for the majority of customers, so they do not feel the need to upgrade their PCs as often as they used to. Consumers in emerging market primarily use smartphones or phablets for their computing needs and also they don’t find the need to use a PC as compared in mature markets. Due to this, market consumption volumes declined with a CARC of -3.4% during 2012-2016, to reach a total of 264.5 million units in 2016, finds the study.
To determine the competitive intensity and market attractiveness, the five forces analysis has been used. The top six vendors highlighted in the report are Lenovo, Dell, Asus, HP, Apple, Acer, Fujitsu Limited and Toshiba Corporation.
