Popularized in the 1980s, liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure in which a licensed and certified cosmetic surgeon uses a cannula to remove excessive fat from thighs, the abdomen and other areas. While it is an effective method of removing fat deposits, the long recovery times and the relatively high financial costs deter many from opting for such a procedure.
