Openwave Mobility Strengthens Mobile Digital Identity with Subscriber Privacy upgrade

ID: 1489609

(firmenpresse) - MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS AND REDWOOD CITY, CA 1 March 2017 – Openwave Mobility, a software innovator enabling operators to manage and monetize encrypted mobile data, today announced that it has released key User Privacy upgrades as part of SmartIDM, a comprehensive digital identity solution for mobile operators partnering with OTTs. This launch comes at a time of heightened interest from network operators and regulators for secure subscriber identity solutions and robust privacy safeguards. SmartIDM is part of Openwave Mobility’s portfolio of Subscriber Data Management (SDM) products. The SDM market globally is expected to reach over $4 billion by 2021 and Openwave Mobility’s SDM solutions are already deployed within three tier-1 operators in the US, Europe and Japan.

The new user privacy module for SmartIDM allows subscribers to control exactly what information operators share with OTTs. With a secure and centralized digital identity, carriers can prevent fraud, deliver personalized services and introduce micropayments in collaboration with OTTs.

Subscribers will now have a simple opt-in/opt-out choice for different aspects of personal information sharing. For example, subscribers could turn off geolocation details for a retailer but keep these switched on for banking applications. Operators can now work with content providers to improve the user experience tailored to each subscriber and comply with local regulatory frameworks.

Matt Halligan, CTO and VP of Engineering said: “We are committed to supporting carriers in monetizing their networks, and SmartIDM is the latest example of this. Subscribers expect offers and promotions to be tailored to their needs and our solution enables operators to deliver this. But, subscribers also value their privacy, they want assurance that their data is handled responsibly. Operators can now conform to privacy legislation and still play a central role in the shared OTT ecosystem”.
