ITK Engineering Establishes Division for Motorsport
A Step that Strengthens the Position as a Software Development Partner of International Racing Teams
(PresseBox) - ITK Engineering has converted what was previously the motorsport program into its very own division. With this step, the high-tech company aims to expand its motorsport business further within Europe and worldwide as well as to position itself as a software development partner of international teams. In doing so, ITK covers the entire development cycle ? from requirement analysis, throughout development, verification and validation, and integration of the vehicle, clear to the en route phase through tests and race events. Thomas Schiller has been leading this newly-established division since January of 2017 and reports directly to the business management board in this capacity.
?The size of the field, our experience and position in the market and also the specific industry requirements allow us to take this step. The motorsport market therefore presents us with special challenges: The functionality in racing vehicles will become increasingly complex. Motorsport teams, however, have increasingly less room for development. They need a strong partner like ITK who will work the decisive advancements needed into the optimal usage of the motorized vehicle systems for them. Exactly at this juncture is where we apply our expertise and help our clients with the development of competitive vehicles,? states Michael Englert, CEO of ITK Engineering.
ITK develops, together with clients, individual software solutions for complex systems in racing vehicles. ?Through the consequently-followed, model-based development approach and the verification and validation with ITK-owned HiL test benches (Hardware-in-the-Loop) during early development phases, we make the realization of new functions within the often extremely short development cycles of motorsport possible,? explains Thomas Schiller, Head of the Division of Motorsport at ITK Engineering.
Motorsport Projects from ITK Engineering
The technology company has years of experience in the field of motorsport and knows the needs of the industry. As a software development partner of the team ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport in the FIA Formula E, ITK develops the entire software systems of vehicles raced by Lucas di Grassi and Daniel Abt. In addition to the transmission management system, ITK develops the complete control of the powertrain ? including the energy strategy, the battery management system, and the cockpit human-machine interface for display of energy data.
Furthermore, up to 2016, the company had supported Audi Sport with the development of the Audi R 18 e-tron quattro ? the champion vehicle of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the years 2012, 2013 and 2014. Among other things, ITK contributed to the functional development of the powertrain train, energy management, and driving dynamics as well as in the fields of simulation and verification and validation.
