November is American Diabetes Month(R), and diabetes is prevalent among those who suffer from severe obesity; Dr. David D. Kim, a weight loss surgeon with Kim Bariatric Institute, discusses the effects that diabetes can have on intimate relationships

(firmenpresse) - DALLAS, TX -- (Marketwired) -- 11/29/16 -- About 29 million people in America suffer from diabetes, a condition that can develop in any individual at any age. The most common form of the condition, type-2 diabetes, is also common among people who suffer from severe obesity. In fact, it has been estimated that nearly 90 percent of people who are diagnosed with diabetes are overweight or obese, and individuals who have severe obesity are 10 times more at risk for developing the condition. Dr. David D. Kim, a area and the head of , says diabetes can lead to a number of physical and emotional health complications. One that is not often talked about, he notes, is the effects the condition can have on intimate relationships.

A recent survey cited in an article by David Mendosa on HealthCentral.com, an online health news and information site, found that out of 500 adult diabetics who were questioned, 42 percent of those not in committed relationships have attempted to conceal some aspect of their condition from the person they were either dating or hoping to date. The study also found that 55 percent of respondents who were in a relationship said that diabetes has had an effect on their sex lives. 25 percent said they had a lower sex drive, and 21 percent claimed that, because of diabetes, they had sex less frequently. While the article explained that talking with your partner or your doctor can be good first steps toward dealing with these issues, Dr. Kim says that, for some individuals, there are also ways to address the problem at its source. For those who have type-2 diabetes and also suffer from severe obesity, Dr. Kim explains that can help to reduce -- and potentially even eliminate -- the condition.

November is American Diabetes Month®, and Dr. Kim notes that this is a great time to help spread awareness about a disease on the rise. With that in mind, there have also been a number of advances in treatment for the condition that have been made over the years. Dr. Kim says a variety of bariatric surgery procedures, including surgery and surgery, have enormous success rates for reducing and even curing diabetes. These treatments are designed to help patients dramatically reduce their risk of serious health complications that are related to severe obesity, and diabetes is one of the most prominent. At Kim Bariatric Institute, Dr. Kim and his team offer a range of surgical weight loss treatment options, as well as a number of non-surgical procedures and weight loss support programs. They also offer information on and how individuals can help control and manage their condition.

Dr. Kim says, while people with diabetes can be more susceptible to a number of physical and even emotional health concerns, they should be aware that there are options available to many diabetics that can be significantly beneficial. He notes that people who have diabetes, and those who are at risk for the condition, should talk to their doctor about their concerns. He adds that individuals who suffer from severe obesity in particular should speak to an experienced weight loss surgeon about options that can potentially help them eradicate type-2 diabetes altogether, or considerably reduce their risk of developing the condition.
