The Durham and Ontario Health Coalitions will hold press conferences to release a new report giving up-to-date analysis of the Ontario government''s plans to force through two mega-mergers of the hospitals in Durham and Scarborough. The report looks at the current costs of the mergers, the claims of various parties including a local MPP regarding funding, the experience of mergers in Ontario and other jurisdictions, the process that has been used to force through the mergers, and what protections, if any, regional residents have to safeguard local access to hospital care. The Coalitions will also announce plans for buses to take residents to Queen''s Park, Ontario''s Legislature, for a "Day of Action" to stop the impending hospital cuts and restructuring. Petitions will be read in the Legislature on that day.
