Canadian Heritage launches consultations on how to strengthen the creation, discovery and export of Canadian content in a digital world

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 09/13/16 -- Department of Canadian Heritage

Today, the Honourable Melanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage, announced the launch of consultations on . All Canadians are invited to join the conversation and participate in the consultation process on how to strengthen the creation, discovery and export of Canadian content in a digital world.

Rapidly changing technological advances are affecting how Canadians produce and consume cultural content and, as a result, the cultural sector is facing new challenges and opportunities. These consultations will help the Government determine the best ways to assist the cultural sector in navigating these changes and seizing opportunities to contribute to Canada''s economic growth and innovation.

This consultation process follows a pre-consultation questionnaire completed by close to 10,000 Canadians. Minister Joly also met with creators over the course of the summer to shape the approach to these consultations. She also sought advice and ongoing feedback from the multidisciplinary Expert Advisory Group announced in June.

With the launch of these consultations, Canadians are invited to visit the website, read about the approach and provide their suggestions on positioning Canada''s cultural sector at the heart of Canada''s creative economy.

Starting in September 2016, Minister Joly will host a series of in-person discussions across the country with representatives from a variety of sectors. Social media events will take place during the consultation period, allowing interested Canadians from across the country to comment on numerous topics and issues covered by the consultations. In addition, Canadians will have the opportunity to lead in-person discussions in their communities using the available online.

These key consultations are an excellent opportunity for Canadians to share their views and ideas on the key topics covered by this exercise and to be part of the conversation.
