Government Receives Task Force Paper on Future of Canada Post

The Government is delivering on its promise to suspend the conversion to community mailboxes and undertake a review of Canada Post. This process is allowing Canadians to share their views on the quality services they need and value, such as sending and receiving letters, parcels or online orders for a reasonable price.
Today, the Honourable Judy M. Foote, Minister of Public Services and Procurement, received a outlining options for the future of Canada Post and the services it provides.
Over the past several months, an independent four-member undertook an analysis of Canada Post''s services and current financial situation, conducted public opinion research, met with key stakeholders, and examined international best practices for postal delivery.
The Task Force''s discussion paper concludes the first phase of the review process. Minister Foote is providing the discussion paper to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates, which is conducting the second phase of the review. Over the fall, the committee will consult Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast. The information presented in the Task Force''s discussion paper provides a starting point for the consultations. The paper is one of many sources that will be used to shape the future of Canada Post. are planned across the country to hear the views of Canadians about Canada Post.
In December, the Committee will make recommendations to the Government. The Government will review these recommendations and announce the future of Canada Post in mid-2017.
