New Search and Rescue Lifeboats on the Way

Construction has begun on six new Search and Rescue (SAR) lifeboats at Chantier Naval Forillon in Gaspe, Quebec. Constructed under the National Shipbuilding Strategy, the Canadian Coast Guard''s Fleet Renewal Plan and the Federal Infrastructure Initiative, the lifeboats will be stationed across Canada providing key SAR services including searches on the water, marine distress response calls as well as assistance to disabled vessels.
The announcement was made by the Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Minister of National Revenue and Member of Parliament for Gaspesie - Iles de la Madeleine on behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard.
Chantier Naval Forillon won a $45.8 million contract in July 2015 to build six vessels. Delivery of the first vessel is scheduled for summer 2017.
