(firmenpresse) - HOUSTON, TX -- (Marketwired) -- 08/25/16 -- River Oaks Psych, a Houston-based psychologist group located in the Memorial area, rebranded this week to The MendCenter, enhancing the mental health treatment experience for patients living with psychosis in Houston and surrounding areas.
The MendCenter is a for the psychotic psychological structure founded by Daniel Garcia, Clinical Director, Ph.D., M.T.S. The name ''MendCenter'' implies the ability for treatment to mend or suture the hole/wound that both causes psychosis as well as the further dis-joining and alienation it creates.
"Our mission is to help each patient come to a more dignified experience of him/herself. While we have a specific way of understanding and treating persons with a psychological structure, we believe that each patient''s improvement will come about differently," says Dr. Daniel Garcia, founder of The MendCenter and .
Psychologists at The MendCenter help patients cope with psychosis using The Transforma Method, a first-of-its-kind (IOP).
The first step in the treatment process offered at The MendCenter is the initial free assessment, where it is determined whether the patient''s psychological structure fits the psychotic structure profile. The MendCenter team then works with patients and their families to develop a treatment plan tailored to their symptoms and psychological needs.
Throughout their treatment, patients will learn what it means to live with and within their psychotic structure and create their own unique personal experience. The patient and his or her family will have bi-weekly assessment sessions to determine progress and develop a plan for the next phase of treatment.
The Transforma Method is best suited for treatment of those who are age 18 or older and have a . It can treat patients suffering from schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, schizophreniform disorder, schizoid personality disorder, delusional disorder, paranoid personality disorder, bipolar 1 disorder, dissociative disorders, and major depressive disorder with psychotic features.
Prior to his training in psychology, Dr. Garcia earned his Master of Theological Studies from Harvard University''s Divinity School. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Texas at Austin and completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine''s, Menninger Clinic.
Dr. Garcia''s research and focus is in Lacanianism, a psychoanalytic theory developed by French psychoanalyst, Jacques Lacan. According to Lacan''s theory, diagnosis of psychosis is a matter of psychological structure and not personality organization, biology, genetics or neuro-chemical functioning, as conventional psychiatric and psychological wisdom otherwise suggests.
Other clinicians at The MendCenter include fully licensed and board-certified, Daniel R. Garza, M.D; licensed clinical social worker and chemical dependency counselor, Lauren Walther, L.C.S.W., L.C.D.C; licensed professional counselor, Jose L. Sanchez, L.P.C.; licensed clinical social worker and group psychotherapist, Connie Ittner, L.C.S.W., C.G.P. and licensed psychotherapist, Ana Guerra, J.D., M.A., L.P.C.
