More internal height than the previous model, thanks to a reduction of the frame neck by 60 millimetres
A wide range of weight-reducing individual features
At the IAA Commercial Vehicles 2016 exhibition, Kögel is presenting a new generation of Kögel Light curtain-sider trucks. The brand new, specially developed Kögel Light plus comes with a payload-optimised and weight-optimised frame and body. With a low tare weight, starting at 4,775 kilograms with individual equipment, and 5,145 kilograms in its standard version, it is exceptionally cost-effective to drive. The technical total weight is 39,000 kilograms and the technical fifth-wheel load is 12,000 kilograms.
New frame using lightweight construction techniques
The lightweight steel frame of the Kögel Light plus is optimised for even greater payloads and has a frame neck height of 120 millimetres. Thanks to the reduction of the frame neck by 60 millimetres, the trailer benefits from more usable internal height than the previous model. Its excellent stability and durability, despite the sparing use of materials in its construction, is ensured through the use of high-quality fine grain steels. Thanks to full-width cross beam, the payload is optimally and evenly distributed across the loading platform. As part of its new design, Kögel Light plus has been equipped with a new external frame profile. The lashing of cargo to the VarioFix perforated steel external frame is also possible with the optional drop sides, which will be available from the second quarter of 2017. The 13 pairs of lashing rings, included as standard,are now available with grip hooks at the sides for easier handling, and have a tensile force of 2,500 kilograms.
New body using lightweight construction techniques
The front wall, including the front volume corner posts, the rear corner posts, and the rear wall door portal are manufactured from aluminium in the basic design. It is also possible to order an optional portal door made from lightweight and highly robust Duroplastic sandwich panels with a honeycomb core filling, well-known from its use in the aviation industry. For further reductions in weight, the roof support frame is also available in aluminium. The corner posts at the front and rear are significantly narrower than before, thanks to an optional lifting roof. This saves additional weight and also simplifies loading and unloading from the side.
High degree of customisation to individual customer requirements
The new Kögel Light plus is available with additional weight-reducing equipment, such as alloy wheels, aluminium semi-trailer supports, lightweight tyres and aluminium air tanks. The floor load-bearing capacity of the 30-millimetre thick and bolted panel floor is designed as standard for a fork-lift axle load of 5,460 kilograms, which can optionally be increased to 7,200 kilograms.
Alternatively, a bonded 27-millimetre thick panel floor is also available. This not only provides further weight saving, but prevents potential damage to the cargo by floor bolts ? while retaining at least the same degree of stability.
Naturally, the Kögel Light plus has the DIN EN 12642 Code XL load-securing certificate. The body has been certified for drinks transport, in combination with the prescribed equipment, such as pallet stops and lattices.
Cathodic dip-paint coating: lasting protection from corrosion
As with all Kögel vehicles for the forwarding industry, the entire vehicle frame on the Kögel Light plus has long-term corrosion protection provided by nano cathodic dip-paint coating and subsequent painting.
"With the CO2 tax that will be introduced in 2020, and increasingly heavy tractor units, the focus is shifting more and more onto lightweight trailers", says Thomas Eschey, Managing Director of Production and Technology at Kögel. "With the Kögel Light plus we are offering our customers a trailer with a higher payload, lower operating costs, and reduced CO2-emissions as a result."
