(businesspress24) - Lanzarote is a beautiful island to visit for a beach holiday or a cultural exploration, full of historic villages, pretty, secluded coves and rugged, breathtaking scenery.

Use a shuttle company for all Lanzarote airport transfers and you’ll be met at the airport and delivered directly to your accommodation – meaning your holiday can begin with minimum fuss and maximum comfort. Then, you can start to explore this beautiful island.

Here are three of our favourite places to see on Lanzarote.

Arrecife

A lot of people will only see Lanzarote’s capital Arrecife when they drive through it during their Lanzarote airport transfers. However, it’s well worth making time during your holiday to explore this beautiful port with its charming, historic centre.

Walk the pretty streets of the old town and discover the 17th-century church of San Ginés, built on the site of the town’s first hermitage.

Because of the strategic importance of Lanzarote and Arrecife, the town has remnants of its military history such as the 16th-century castle of San Gabriel and the Bolas Bridge, as well as historic fortifications built to protect the island from regular pirate attacks.

If you want to combine a love of architecture with a passion for modern art, then a visit to Arrecife’s castle of San José, which houses the island’s International Museum of Contemporary Art, is a must.

And if all that culture leaves you needing a rest, then walk down to the waterfront where there is a great selection of restaurants and cafés offering traditional Lanzarote dishes such as the local fish stew ‘vieja’. There’s even a beautiful beach to lie back and relax on, making Arrecife a perfect place to spend a whole day.

Yaiza

Set on Lanzarote’s rugged, volcanic south coast, at the foothills of Timanfaya National Park, far away from the tourist trail of bustling beaches and noisy pubs and clubs, is the pretty, historic village of Yaiza. The village is surrounded by some of the island’s most picturesque beaches, like Quemada and the coves around Papagayo.

Built on an area of Lanzarote which was home to some of the island’s oldest settlements, there is still evidence of Yaiza’s ancient past visible in the village today.

Visit the Los Remedios hermitage, the structure of which dates back to the late 17th century, or travel further back in time to the church of San Marcial in Femés, which was the sight of the first diocese in the Canary Islands back in the 15th century.

On a visit to Yaiza it is well worth taking a trip beyond the village to explore the stunning volcanic landscape of the National Park with its eerie lunar landscape of petrified lava formations which runs all the way to the coast.

Teguise

No cultural visit to Lanzarote would be complete without a trip to the island’s former capital Teguise. This historic town, nestled into the dramatic volcanic landscape, includes typical Lanzarote architecture as well as creations by local architect César Manrique.

It was Manrique who created the town’s famous Cactus Garden, which is worth a visit, as is his former residence.

Take time out on the beaches of Costa Teguise and you’ll experience the island’s unique combination of culture and beach holiday.

Make sure on your next visit to this beautiful island that you venture beyond the route of your Lanzarote airport transfers to discover an island with a colourful historic past and fascinating culture.
