Toronto-Based Jiffy Raises $1 Million for Chicago Expansion
Tech Startup's App Connects Homeowners Directly with Trades

Toronto-based , whose mobile app connects homeowners with home service professionals for same-day appointments, has raised $1 million in funding. This is in addition to a $550k seed round the company raised last fall.
In addition to returning investors, participants in the new round include and notable Toronto angel investors Bert Amato, Bryan Kerdman and the Kimel family. The funds will be allocated to expand Jiffy''s presence in Toronto and launch in their second market, Chicago.
The choice to expand to Chicago was an easy one, Jiffy co-founder Ryan Shupak says. "Our target market is millennial homeowners - those desiring to use an app whenever possible, let alone not yet having a rolodex built up of trades when in need. Home ownership in Chicago is affordable, homeowners are tech savvy and it''s not too far from Toronto, both geographically and culturally."
Jiffy''s popularity with service professionals and homeowners in Toronto has grown consistently since their launch last fall, already with a run rate GMV of $3 million.
The company is anxious to expand its offering in a US market, explains Shupak. "Our platform is unique in the home maintenance space; it''s designed for those quick, small items around the house rather than large renovation projects." Jiffy''s model is based on the fact that homeowners want a qualified, pre-vetted professional quickly, exactly when they desire, all without reading through dozens of reviews. Ryan cites this focus on smaller, more commoditized maintenance and repair jobs around the house allows Jiffy to deliver consistent, quality same-day service.
