Brekford Supports Calvert County Sheriff''s Office With New Automated Traffic Safety Enforcement Systems in Maryland

ID: 1449694

(firmenpresse) - HANOVER, MD -- (Marketwired) -- 07/28/16 -- (OTCQX: BFDI), a leading public safety and security technology service provider of automated traffic safety enforcement ("ATSE") solutions, parking and traffic violation systems, and an end-to-end suite of technology solutions for public safety vehicles and mobile workers, announced today that it has implemented the first three live speed camera systems for the Calvert County Sheriff''s Office under a multi-year contract.

"We are honored to support the Calvert County Sheriff''s Office, and the entire community, to improve school zone safety by reducing speeding violations and traffic crashes, and ultimately saving lives," commented Rod Hillman, President and COO of Brekford. "We implemented our third-generation portable P2S Speed Enforcement System, complete with solar power and wireless communication, enabling rapid redeployment to wherever speeding is a concern. Our ATSE speed camera programs typically reduce speeding violations by more than 80 percent within the first year of operation."

Brekford will be working closely with the County to enforce safe speeds across 23 public school zones. Additional cameras will be deployed as requested, and all cameras will eventually be rotated among identified locations. There will be an initial 30-day warning period notifying drivers who exceed the speed limit by 12 miles per hour or more. After the warning period, a $40 citation will be mailed for each infraction, upon review and approval by the Sheriff''s Office.

There is consensus worldwide from traffic safety researchers that speeding is one of the major causes of traffic crashes, injuries and deaths. Research by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has shown that speed camera programs reduce the likelihood of crashes involving fatalities or incapacitating injuries by 19 percent. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that only one out of ten pedestrians survives when hit by a vehicle traveling at 40 MPH, whereas nine out of ten survive if hit by a vehicle going only 20 MPH.

Brekford invests heavily in research and development to deliver advanced traffic safety enforcement solutions and reliable service to its customers. Brekford''s range of technologies include its P2S Speed Enforcement System, Safety Zone SpeedAlert Radar Signs, BRAVA Red Light Enforcement System, and back office iP360 Violation Processing and Evidence Management Suite. We develop each solution to yield better results through innovative designs and manufacturing in the U.S., high quality engineering and components, flexible and easy-to-use tools, and proven chain of custody.
