HighStep and the Umbrellas for Mecca!
A new project for HighStep: the huge umbrellas in Mecca are now equipped with a HighStep Rail and the worldwide first portable Lift.
(firmenpresse) - Yet another revolutionary application for HighStep, this time the future of climbing reaches the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
Over 15 million Muslims from all over the world visit Mecca every year and the unbearable Saudi Arabian heat can become dangerous when such a huge amount of people group together to pray around the holy Kaaba. A solution to provide a better experience to the Muslim pilgrims, who according to the Quran have to visit the sacred city at least once in their life, has been developed by Liebherr, a German leading manufacturer of mostly construction and mining equipment (but also many other user-oriented products and services) with whom HighStep had already collaborated for some installations on tower cranes.
These huge umbrellas, with a diameter of over 50 meters and a height of 30 meters, can shade an area as big as a football field, they help both with protecting from the sun radiations as well as from the rain. They also have to be able to close when one of the frequent sand storms hits the city in the desert, therefore they are equipped with many hydraulic tubes inside. To install these tubes and also fix them in case of problems, the technicians need an efficient way to reach the top of the tower. While the construction of the umbrellas is made in Ehingen (Germany), its maintenance has to be done in Mecca, where the heat can increase the temperatures inside the towers to up to 60° C. This excludes any climbing system that would require a user to manually climb up in such conditions, since it would be too exhausting. On the other hand, the dimensions of the tower are too small to contain a conventional lift.
In this application the HighStep System shows all its benefits: the Rail is small, easy to install even in tight spaces, maintenance free, easy to use and of course it offers the possibility to reach the top of the tower without any effort thanks to the HighStep Lift, the world’s first portable lift!
