Shenzhen, China, 28 June 2016 – Shenzhen Skyworth Digital Technology Co. LTD. (000810.SZ), a leading STB and smart home solutions provider, today announced it has been selected as a supplier for Brazil’s Analog Switch Off (ASO) – the world’s biggest digital switch over so far – and as the main provider for the largest cities in the first stage of the project.
Due to take place within the next three years, Brazil’s ASO will see Skyworth Digital ship the vast majority of the 14 million Ginga-compliant STBs and 15 million Zappers, meeting the Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting — Terrestrial (ISDB T) standard. It has exclusively provided its products in the pilot city of Rio Verde, the capital city of Brasilia, and is now preparing to supply Sao Paulo. Brasilia and Sao Paulo are the main cities to be fully switched off during this first stage.
Skyworth Digital is also collaborating with its local exclusive partner EAD – an entity created to support the transition of analogue channels to digital – to carry out the first field tests in Rio Verde, as well as be the first vendor to meet extremely demanding standards set by Mackenzie University. In addition, the company is entering a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) manufacturing process in Manaus for all ASO STBs.
“As the first company to have its products fully homologated and with STBs achieving 100% compliance with EAD specifications, Skyworth Digital was ideally positioned to take on this unprecedented project,” said Darrell Haber, Vice General Manager at Skyworth Digital. “Latin America is an incredibly important market to us which we have invested significantly in over the years and we are delighted to take on this leading role in an important step for the region’s broadcast market.”
The company – which has factories in Brazil and Argentina and plans to establish additional facilities – also played a leading role in the ASO initiative in other Latin American countries, including Argentina, Venezuela, Panama, and Cuba. It is also currently shipping ASO STBs to Chile and El Salvador and ASO TVs into Mexico, with further deployments expected in Honduras, Bolivia, Colombia, and Ecuador.
