Mind, Soul, Body & Pur$e - The second annual Canada International Black Women Event & Gala (CIBWE) will be held Friday & Saturday, June 10 & 11, 2016 at the downtown Novotel Hotel (Hurontario & Burhamthorpe, opposite Square One) in Mississauga. This is a two days conference, discussion, Networking and Gala that are designed to celebrate, connect, empower and ignite Black Women.
"Black women in Canada are now tearing down the walls and breaking barriers everywhere in our society," explains Rose Cathy Handy, the founder of this unique black women''s networking conference. "These accomplishments have to be acknowledged, elevated and celebrated. And women have to be encouraged and supported to do even more."
Women taking part in the event will be networking, attending a series of panel discussions that will focus on breaking the cycle of poverty with Finances literacy and business success; empowering Black women in how they manage their health, image, faith and influence to improve their lives and others. As well there will be lunch and discussion between pioneer black women who want to share their anecdotes and experience with other catalysts young black women engaged in philanthropy. The Pioneers are: Dr Margaret Best-Duncan, Cheryl Nembhard, Dr Marlyn Morris, Haja Fatmatta R. Kanu. With the catalysts such as: Dr Renee Rawlins, Ashley Jane Lewis, Aisha Addo, Priscilla Birago, Georgette Boma-Bibi.
A special panel on Saturday will feature Men talking about matters of Love and Black women. The presenters are: Former CFL Jonathan Hood, Community organizer Jeff Martin, Radio personality Kerry lee, Entrepreneur Tosin Bello.
The entire conference begins with opening remarks by Honorable Mitzie Hunter. Mitzie Hunter is the Ontario Associate Minister of Finance responsible for pension reform and the MPP of Scarborough-Guildwood. Her opening remarks will lead to the following conversation on breaking the cycle of poverty in Black families.
Throughout the two days there will be presentations and discussions with a wide range of presenters including:
An exhibit hall will be connecting conference goers with associations and companies that cater to black women. Saturday evening the closing Gala will showcase 100 black women to watch. The gala includes a gourmet meal, entertainment and giveaways.
The gala''s keynote address will be given by Celina Caesar-Chavannes. She is the new Parliamentary Secretary to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and MP for Whitby.
CIBWE is supporting The Esther Handy Children''s Fund, a special initiative to raise funds to support the education of orphan of HIV Aids in Cameroon. This project also aims to offer leadership training to young black girls in Canada.
Esther Handy was a nurse from Cameroon who worked with HIV positive pregnant women. She lost her life at 38 due to complications with the HIV virus.
