Non Profit Lifting Hearts Breast Cancer Support Group Hosts Celebration of Life
A “Celebration of Life†honoring Breast Cancer survivors will be held Thursday May 12th in Salt Lake City, Utah. Lifting Hearts cancer support group is hosting the event and is now expanding to help more breast cancer survivors and their families in Utah.
(firmenpresse) - A €œCelebration of Life€ honoring Breast Cancer survivors will be held Thursday May 12th at the Midvale Senior Center. Lifting Hearts cancer support group is hosting the event. Karen Ashton, founder of Thanksgiving Point will be the keynote speaker. Highlight for the event will be the presentation of a generous contribution from the [Timothy Sykes Foundation](http://www.timothysykes.com/). The event starts at 6:30 pm at 7550 South Main Street, Midvale.
Lifting Hearts got it''s start in 2010 when founder Kara Herron, Bethanie Newby and Colette Harris joined together at the invitation of their doctor to form a breast cancer support group in Utah Valley. Each of these women had been through the trauma of a cancer diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and reconstruction. With a common goal to be healthy survivors and to help other survivors heal, the group was organized to provide mentoring, monthly support meetings, breast cancer retreats, service opportunities, and family activities, all aimed at sharing support, wisdom, laughter and hope.
One of the early challenges Lifting Hearts faced was reaching breast cancer survivors and providing support with limited resources. While every organization faces challenges, some, like Lifting Hearts are fortunate enough to enjoy real successes, wins and victories too. Today, over 500 women and their families have benefited from Lifting Hearts and the organization continues to expand it''s reach.
Lifting Hearts currently consists of many volunteers and has big plans for the upcoming year. The board has expanded to include dedicated women who apply their talents and energy to strengthening their programs to help encourage, support and uplift more breast cancer survivors and their families in Utah.
They look forward to coverage of the event to bring awareness of the organization to other breast cancer survivors in need of support, encouragement and friendship. Lifting Hearts is a non-profit organization founded by Breast Cancer Survivors for fellow survivors. The group is currently serving over 500 families in the Utah Valley area and is expanding to Salt Lake and Weber County.
