The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is a world-leading label for processing textiles made from organically produced natural fibres. GOTS precisely defines the environmental requirements of all textiles production, and quality assurance is performed via independent certification of the entire textiles supply chain. This includes ensuring sustainable production of bedding, from manufacture to packaging. The standard also defines key social criteria which participating companies must consciously abide by and implement.
ORGANIC: fair, high-quality bedding from controlled organic farming
The ORGANIC range offers a complete collection of bedding made of natural materials from controlled organic farming. The duvets, pillows, neck support pillows and toppers are made using fair and sustainable manufacture. They also impress with billerbeck’s typical level of quality, using choice high-quality materials inducing a sense of soporific well-being in the recumbent person. The fillings are 100% sheep’s wool or cotton.
The COSIDREAM NATURE®, COSILANA NATURE and COSICOTTON NATURE® duvets, the COSIDREAM NATURE® pillow and the COSILANA NATURE topper have a high-quality soft batiste cover made from 100% cotton fabric. The duvets have a variety of degrees of heat which make them suitable for all sleeping positions and times of year. For its COSIDREAM NATURE® pillows, billerbeck uses a sustainable, very easily washable cover with a hotel fold – meaning no zipper or buttons. The ORGANIC carry bag in which all products are supplied also uses no animal materials and is entirely compostable.
GOTS background: the Global Organic Textile Standard International Working Group consists of four member organisations from the USA, Japan, the UK and Germany. It unites expertise from organic farming and environmentally sustainable, socially responsible textile processing under the GOTS umbrella – together with other international stakeholder organisations and experts. The philosophy of GOTS is to make organic textiles a substantial part of daily life, improve people’s lives and present environmental benefits. GOTS has therefore developed globally recognised guidelines to ensure sustainable production of textiles: as well as the production of organically produced, natural raw materials, these also cover environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing and transparent labelling.
