Aretha Franklin Announces Biopic, Adds Tour Dates to Celebrate Birthday
The Queen of Soul celebrated her 74th birthday in style at the Ritz-Carlton hotel with 100 of her closest friends. At the party, Aretha Franklin announced progress on the biopic first floated in 2011.

According to the singer, the plans for the Franklin biopic are now full steam ahead, after producer Scott Bernstein, acclaimed producer of Straight Outta Compton, agreed to leave artistic control of the project in her hands. Rumors are that actress and singer Jennifer Hudson will play Franklin in the long-planned biopic. With 77 hit songs in the U.S. and 18 Grammy nominations, Franklin is one of the most successful singers in the world, and any biopic of her life is guaranteed to be fascinating, wrote one major soul fan magazine in an article about the planned film.
In addition, Franklin has recently announced new summer shows to those already planned. She had previously announced plans to do a limited North American tour for the summer, but has added new shows in response to the high demand for tickets.
The multiple award-winning soul singer has only announced five shows for the upcoming season, including dates in North Carolina, Minnesota, Wisconsin, New York, and the recently announced show in Vienna, Virginia at Wolf Trap National Park.
Franklin is a frequent visitor to the Wolf Trap Center for the Arts, having appeared there in 2008, 2010 and 2011. The newly announced Wolf Trap show is part of a 100th birthday show for the national park, and Franklin will be joined by several other guests. Tickets for that show went on sale to Wolf Pack members Sunday, April 18 and will go on sale to the general public Friday, April 23.
