Advisory: Closure of Wallaceburg Emergency Department Would Be Death of Community Hospital; Concerned Residents Bring Message to Ontario Legislature

ID: 1428471

(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 04/15/16 -- Residents from Walpole Island First Nation and Wallaceburg will travel more than 700 kilometres to bring a message to the Ontario Legislature at Queen''s Park in Toronto, that the closure of the Wallaceburg Emergency Department would deprive 20,000 people of life-saving care and would sound the death knell of their rural community hospital. After years of services being gutted, the Wallaceburg Hospital is threatened with the closure of its Emergency Department. Like many hospitals that were amalgamated in the 1990s, as hospital cuts have deepened, rather than yielding the administrative savings promised, amalgamation has turned into a recipe for the evisceration of local services in the smaller hospital sites.

Ontario''s government is heading into the ninth consecutive year of real-dollar cuts to hospital global budgets -- the longest stretch of cuts in our history.

Residents will travel to Queen''s Park for a day to raise awareness. They will be holding a press conference at the media studio.

When Monday April 18, 12 noon.

Where Queen''s Park media studio, Main Legislative Building, 111 Wellesley St. W.
