Harrison Honor Gives Concert of New Pieces for Solo Percussion
Percussionist Harrison Honor performed a concert at the New England Conservatory in Boston last week that showed off Samuel Solomon's unique combination of percussion instruments, known as “The Setupâ€. The program included pieces by Unsuk Chin, Chuchu Wen, Quentin Tschofen, and Stephanie Ann Boyd.

April 7, Boston, MA - Percussionist Harrison Honor performed a concert in Brown Hall at the New England Conservatory in Boston last week that showed off the dynamic range of Samuel Solomon''s unique combination of percussion instruments, known as €œThe Setup". The program showcased music written for The Setup, including a piece by Unsuk Chin, and Honor''s commissions by composers Chuchu Wen, Quentin Tschofen, and Stephanie Ann Boyd.
Honor commissioned Stephanie Ann Boyd''s Photinus last year and premiered it in Jordan Hall last November on [a concert in memory of the late Gunther Schuller](http://necmusic.edu/event/14684). €œPhotinus is a welcome addition to the solo percussion repertoire, cleverly filled with characters and sounds that bring us into the mysterious and dreamlike world of a summer night", Honor remarked. Harrison is a dedicated performer of both classical and contemporary music in the Boston area. He has appeared as a soloist in the Boston Symphony Prelude Series concerts, as a member of Calithumpian Consort, and performs frequently with NEC''s Contemporary Ensemble. Harrison has been involved with numerous commissions and premiers in Boston. His teachers include Daniel Bauch and Brooke Sofferman, and he currently works with beginning percussionists at New England Conservatory''s Preparatory School.
A graduate of the New England Conservatory, Boyd is currently based in New York City. Her largest project to date is this year''s [50 State Sonata Project](http://www.stephanieannboyd.com/50-state-sonata-project), in which a new violin sonata Amerigo has been commissioned by one violinist in each of the 50 states. Last season''s highlights involved co-directing the Tuesday Night New Music concert series, winning New England Conservatory''s Donald Martino Prize for Excellence in Composition, being chosen as the NEC/Boston Modern Orchestra Project Competition winner, and having her violin concerto premiered in Jordan Hall by recent Michael Hill International Competition prize-winner Eunae Koh under the baton of Australian conductor Nathan Aspinall.
