Oral Surgeon in Washington D.C. Offers Free Oral Cancer Screenings

ID: 1427399

Capital Oral & Facial Surgery Center to provide complimentary screenings in Washington D.C. during Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week®, Wednesday, April 13, 2016.

(firmenpresse) - Simply because it can not be felt, does not suggest it isn''t actually present. Over 100,000 people in the United States were examined, and diagnosed with cancers of the neck and head in 2015. The fact is, many people in the United States do not notice the indicators of these lethal diseases and for some, once they finally are examined and diagnosed, it is way too late.

Head, neck and oral cancers take roughly 14,000 lives each year. If detected in advance, these cancerous cells are far more effectively treated with no critical consequences, and the possibility of survival significantly increases.

Capital Oral & Facial Surgery Center is providing oral cancer screenings free of charge in acknowledgement of the 19th Annual Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week (OHANCAW) on Wednesday, April 13, 2016. The screening process is painless, and conducted in a mere 10 minutes. Complementary screenings are being offered at over 400 participating organizations worldwide as part of OHANCAW, which is planned for the week of April 10-16. OHANCAW is nationally sponsored by the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance.

"I always feel that prevention is the best Medicine," said Dr. Lee. €œCancer can affect your whole body. Even medical professionals forget that the head is connected to the rest of the body. Early detection of abnormalities in the head and neck area, including the mouth, makes diagnosis and treatment much better for the patient, as well as increases the patients long term survival rate."

All adults should be examined. Alcohol and tobacco consumers historically have generally been regarded as the people at biggest risk for these types of cancers. At the same time, cased of oral cancer are growing in young adult nonsmokers, and current research suggests this development is a result in part to the rise of the human papillomavirus (HPV) virus. HPV-related oral cancers are harder to identify given that these particular cancers commonly develop on the tonsils, or on the back of the tongue, presenting additional rationale to get routinely examined.

The symptoms and signs of oral cancer regularly are not recognized. Anyone experiencing chronic mouth pain, throat soreness, red or white areas inside the mouth, development of lumps inside the mouth or neck, trouble with tongue movement, trouble swallowing or chewing, or changes in voice, should seek medical attention at once.
