Giant Tiger Invests in the Future with New Distribution Centre
Canada's leading discount retailer breaks ground for state of the art facility in Johnstown Industrial Park
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 04/04/16 -- , Canada''s leading discount retailer, is proud to announce the commencement of construction for its new state-of-the-art distribution centre. Located in the Township of Edwardsburgh/Cardinal, the new facility will occupy approximately 600,000 square feet of warehouse and ancillary office space, an area equivalent to 10 football fields. The multimillion dollar investment is part of the retail company''s continuing expansion strategy throughout Canada.
"Distribution and warehousing are core functions of the Giant Tiger business model," said Thomas Haig, President and COO, Giant Tiger. "We are thrilled to break ground at the Johnstown Industrial Park and are optimistic about the opportunities that this new build will facilitate for both Giant Tiger and the Township. This investment is certain to provide benefits throughout the entire region as our facility will generate new business within Edwardsburgh/Cardinal and in the nearby communities."
To celebrate the official start of construction Giant Tiger will host an inaugural ground-breaking ceremony today at its Johnstown Industrial Park site. Members of Giant Tiger''s executive team, including President and COO Thomas Haig, will be joined by members of the municipality including Edwardsburgh/Cardinal Mayor Patrick Sayeau and local MP, Gord Brown. Representatives of Giant Tiger''s founding family, the Reids, will also be in attendance.
"The Johnstown Industrial Park is one of Ontario''s first Certified Site Program industrial parks and we are thrilled to have one of the largest development projects that Leeds and Grenville has seen in years," said Township Mayor Patrick Sayeau. "This major project is evidence of how development ready Edwardsburgh/Cardinal truly is and we are happy to welcome Giant Tiger to the Township."
Giant Tiger Stores Limited operates three dry goods facilities in Ottawa as well as temperature-controlled facilities in Brockville and Brantford. There will be no changes to the temperature controlled facilities, as they recently expanded.
The new Giant Tiger distribution centre is scheduled to be operational by summer 2018.
