Media Invited to Presentation by BC Securities Commission Chair on Being a Responsible and Engaged Investor
Speech in Support of Fraud Prevention Month
(firmenpresse) - VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 03/16/16 -- In support of Fraud Prevention Month, Brenda Leong, Chair and CEO of the British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC), will be delivering a short speech cautioning investors not to allow trust to prevent them from taking an active role in their investments.
Research conducted by the BCSC shows that the trust B.C. investors have in their advisors can prevent them from practicing good investor behaviours. For example, 63 per cent of B.C. investors who reported they do not always read their statements said it was because they trust their advisor is taking care of their money. A further 74 per cent said they did not need to ask about compensation because they trust it is fair and reasonable.
Leong will discuss important steps investors should take to protect their financial interests by playing an active role in the investment decisions they make with their advisors.
Leong will also release the BCSC''s newest fraud protection video -- BeFraudAware, the Two Minute Musical -- as part of an interactive event featuring Mark Donnelly, Canadian Anthem singer for the Vancouver Canucks, and David, the fraudster from the Be Fraud Aware commercials.
