World Finance - Corporates Tackle the Climate Question
(firmenpresse) - LONDON, ENGLAND -- (Marketwired) -- 03/09/16 -- Realising that climate change poses a serious risk to their bottom line, some companies are skewing the facts to make their operations seem greener. The new issue of World Finance pours over the issue of climate change and asks what corporations are doing - or not - to respond to the climate question.
"As the need for transparent disclosure on climate impacts has entered the mainstream, companies are more accountable to all of their stakeholders," says Frances Way, Co-Chief Operating Officer of CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), in an interview with World Finance. For the most part, companies recognise that sustainability is not a choice, but a fact of the market.
"We see that corporations are clearly shifting their strategies to become a part of the solution to the climate challenge," says Way. "The momentous and global nature of climate change mans that, ultimately, we need everyone on board."
However, in the wake of the VW emissions scandal, consumers would be wise to question corporate promises on climate change and whether or not their claims are as ambitious as they say. Where many corporations are happy to pledge a commitment to climate change, few are willing to carry these promises through to fruition.
Also in the new issue of World Finance, we take a look at the ups and downs of Argentina''s economy, the end of Africa''s commodities boom and China''s unfolding demographic crisis.
