Virtuapedia Project Surpasses 1,000 Virtualization Products & Services
(firmenpresse) - NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 03/03/16 -- Light Reading (), the market-leading online community for the global communications sector, announced today that its groundbreaking Virtuapedia () project now includes listings and detailed information covering more than 1,000 products and services that will drive the virtualization initiatives of communications service providers (CSPs) around the world.
Launched in December 2015, Virtuapedia is an innovative, web-based initiative to define the scope of the business opportunity presented by virtualization; provide a realistic timeline for its deployment; and deliver a comprehensive database of the vendors, CSPs, technologies, standards, people and products that are fundamental to building the new global, virtualized communications economy. Sponsors of the Virtuapedia project include Cisco Systems, Ericsson and Intel.
In less than three months, Virtuapedia''s database of products and services has grown to more than 1,000 entries, as CSPs and technology suppliers register to include their offerings in the searchable service. To date, more than 700 companies are engaged with the Virtuapedia project worldwide.
"Industry involvement in building Virtuapedia is exceeding expectations," notes Dennis Mendyk, Virtuapedia director and VP of research for Heavy Reading, Light Reading''s research group. "Virtuapedia has quickly established itself as the primary information source for CSP virtualization."
Virtuapedia consists of two main components: a unique, comprehensive, searchable set of databases covering the entire spectrum of network and services virtualization; and a series of concise indexes that will track the progress that CSPs make in their virtualization efforts, using real-world input from dozens of the world''s leading CSPs. The indexes, which focus on virtualization planning, deployment and spending, are now available on virtuapedia.com and will be updated on a regular basis, providing all CSPs with concrete and realistic benchmarks to measure their company''s progress against peers and competitors.
Another key element of Virtuapedia is its People directory, a one-of-a-kind listing of communications professionals who are participating directly in the virtualization revolution. Inclusion in the directory is completely voluntary -- everyone in the directory has opted in to be part of this unique worldwide community-building effort. As of March 1, more than 1,700 industry professionals have signed up for the People directory.
