Cycling Without Age Coming to Toronto in May 2016
Fundraising Efforts Underway to Purchase First Bike
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 02/11/16 -- Cycling Without Age, a movement started in 2012 by Ole Kassow of Denmark, aims to improve the lives and mobility of the elderly by taking them out for a bike ride. The movement has expanded to regions all over the world, and in May of this year it''s Toronto''s turn to get on their bike.
After learning about , year-round cyclist Dorothea Torrico was inspired to bring the movement here to Toronto. The first step in this process is to purchase a specially designed rickshaw, valued at $9,000 and created in Denmark. The rickshaw is designed to safely and successfully give seniors the opportunity to gain mobility, enjoy the outdoors and their community.
"As Toronto becomes more cycle friendly, we are confident that this program will grow and bring joy and fun to the lives of local residents of all ages," said Dorothea. "The five guiding principles that have shaped Cycling Without Age - generosity, slowness, storytelling, relationships, without age - are the perfect vehicle to finding a joyful connection built on the simple experience of a shared bike ride."
Complete details on the fundraising effort to purchase the Toronto rickshaw can be found on , a free platform for human goodness. Donation levels vary from as little as $2 to as large as $8,000 - a donation large enough to warrant naming the first official Toronto Cycling Without Age rickshaw.
Once Toronto has its first rickshaw, Dorothea and her group will begin recruiting volunteers and providing demos on how to operate the rickshaws. Volunteers can then begin offering free rickshaw rides to seniors in their community.
