After 97 Years the Historical Landmark Eatery, Elite Cafe, Located on Waco''s Famous Circle, Closes Its Doors Today, February 4th
(firmenpresse) - WACO, TX -- (Marketwired) -- 02/04/16 -- The historical landmark eatery, Elite Café, closes its doors today after 97 years of serving the Waco community. The Elite Café opened in 1919 in downtown Waco. Innovative beyond its time, the Elite was the first restaurant in Waco to use refrigeration in 1923.
In the 1940s, a second location opened on Waco''s famous traffic circle, where it was often frequented by a then-Private Elvis Presley, who was stationed in Fort Hood at the time. The Elite Café on the circle has always been a popular meeting spot for I-35 travelers.
"We have thoroughly enjoyed managing and operating this historical landmark," says Creed Ford III, owner of Elite Café.
"Unfortunately, due to economic reasons, we have made the tough decision to close our doors and sell the property. We cannot thank the people of Waco and those throughout the state of Texas enough for their patronage and support over the years."
Lynn and Creed Ford III have owned and operated the Elite Café since 1999, when they acquired it from Texas restaurateur, David Tinsley.
Ford plans to sell the property, as well as the Elite Café brand rights. The Elite Café''s last day of business was yesterday, February 3rd, 2016.
