(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 01/25/16 -- Starting January 31, the public can help support Muscular Dystrophy Canada by making a donation at any of the more than 650 LCBO stores throughout Ontario. Donation boxes for Muscular Dystrophy Canada will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until February 27, 2016.

Funds raised from the LCBO''s Provincial Donation Box Program will assist families registered with Muscular Dystrophy Canada with the purchase of essential medical equipment. Next to finding a cure, the highest priority for individuals with neuromuscular disorders is the need for equipment. This equipment is often very expensive and families do not have health insurance to cover the cost. The organization''s main objective is to provide people with neuromuscular disorders with medically prescribed equipment necessary for daily living. We want to assist these individuals to move from dependence to independence and to increase their access and participation in the community.

"We appreciate the support we receive from LCBO, its employees and especially its customers. LCBO''s province-wide store network provides a unique opportunity to raise public awareness and funds to carry out the important work we do," says Kevin Harrison, National Director, Corporate & Individual Giving, Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

"As a socially responsible community-minded retailer, LCBO is pleased to partner with Muscular Dystrophy Canada and support a variety of worthy causes through the Giving Back In Our Community fundraising program," says LCBO President & CEO Bob Peter. "Through the generosity of LCBO customers and the support of our staff, we help improve the lives of countless Ontarians and make a difference in communities across Ontario."

Muscular Dystrophy Canada is one of 28 provincial and numerous local charities that will benefit from LCBO''s province-wide donation box program in 2016. In 2014, LCBO raised a total of more than $9.5 million for charities through special programs and initiatives, of which $8.8 million was raised through in-store fundraising. In addition, LCBO''s annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $1.805 billion in fiscal 2014-15 ending March 31, 2015, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services and priorities, including health care, education, infrastructure and other important public services.

Muscular Dystrophy Canada thanks the public for its support when shopping at their local LCBO store from January 31 - February 27, 2016.
