Reishi Mushrooms Recently Found to Promote Weight Loss
A study describes the health benefits of Reishi extract and the effects on mice.
(firmenpresse) - Recent scientific studies show that Ganoderma Lucidum has changed gut bacteria after ingestion that has encouraged weight loss.
More commonly known as Reishi, ganoderma lucidum has been a mushroom used in Chinese medicine for longevity and its immune boosting properties.
This change of the gut bacteria caused by the Reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum) has resulted in the turnaround symptoms of obesity in mice.
Within the experiment, the mice that were fed a high-fat diet gained up to 25 percent more than the mice whose high-fat diet also included Reishi extracts, said David Ojcius, a microbiologist who participated in the study, told PBS.
The Reishi mushroom extract when consumed with the high-fat diet inhibited the development of gut inflammation, fat tissue and the buildup of harmful bacteria in the blood.
Ojcius concluded that the study suggests the Reishi extract encouraged stomach health in a person who is already experiencing obesity symptoms.
Reishi extract helped slim fat mice but the effect wasn''t as strong on a mouse eating a regular diet. Reishi altered the gut bacteria of an obese mouse that promoted stomach health with such symptoms of the inhibition of fat tissue, inflammation of the gut and the buildup of bad bacteria in the blood.
The gut microbiota is a bacteria in that gut that controls nutrient and energy levels that has been associated with obesity, a study found.
Researchers observed that the Reishi mushroom extract resulted in changes of the gut microbiota that then transferred its anti-obesity properties through fecal transplantation.
€œI like the idea of some of these Chinese medicine stories coming back into science, I love the idea of revisiting traditional medicines," said Professor Colin Hill, a microbiologist at the University College Cork in Ireland.
Ojcius suggests consumers to do their research before purchasing because Reishi isn''t regulated by the Food and Drug Administration.
