Becoming a Diplomate of the ABP is an achievement earned by a small percentage of periodontists in the U.S., which highlights the advanced expertise of those who pursue, complete, and maintain the accreditation. To become certified by the ABP, a periodontist must have completed three years of advanced specialty training following dental school, as well as pass challenging oral and written exams.
