Florida Everglades Documentary Garners Suncoast Emmy Award
"THE UNSEEN EVERGLADES: Inside a Legendary Wilderness" Focuses on the Sunshine State's "River of Grass" -- One of the World's Most Precious Natural Resources -- and the Spirited Fight to Preserve and Protect Its Unique Habitats
(firmenpresse) - PEMBROKE PINES, FL -- (Marketwired) -- 12/14/15 -- The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Suncoast Chapter presented an EMMY Award in the photographer category for the documentary entitled "THE UNSEEN EVERGLADES: Inside a Legendary Wilderness."
The film, televised nationally on PBS stations, was co-produced by South Florida PBS Television, (formally WXEL-TV) and Coral Gables, Florida based book publisher and filmmaker Tropic Moon Media. Andy Cope, Director of Photography for Riviera Beach, Florida based Apex Productions, received the award.
Hosting the documentary was noted adventurer and author Charles J. Kropke. "As the man behind the camera, Mr. Cope captured the true Everglades, a mysterious sub-tropical realm festooned with orchids, ferns and majestic cypress trees and the diverse natural habitats for alligators, manatees, deer, crocodiles, wading birds, black bears and Florida panther," said Kropke. "In addition to the flora, fauna and people of the Everglades, the documentary also focuses on the spirited fight to restore, preserve and protect its unique habitats. This includes, among many other efforts, the re-channelization of the Kissimmee River, back-filling of ditches on Central Florida ranchlands, clean water storage, agricultural runoff management, lifting parts of the Tamiami Trail and canal plugs at Cape Sable. All of these issues will be addressed in this fast-moving documentary about the mighty ''River of Grass''."
