ESSA - The International Security Association Campaigns for the Removal of Trade Barriers
Frankfurt/Main – November, 2015. ESSA, the leading association for physical security products, will also in the future support the removal of trade barriers. During the 2015 General Assembly future trends of the industry were the core of discussions.
(firmenpresse) - Again and again undesired trading barriers come up within the European context. ESSA, the leading security association, increasingly takes care of those issues. At the 2015 General Assembly in Frankfurt/Main, the Executive Committee could speak about its achievements: a Polish security regulation has been classified as non-compliant with the European law. Polish authorities need to present a second draft of the regulation, since the first has been declined. Also in Sweden, ESSA was successful: the Swedish Standards Institute, SIS, withdrew a safe standard which has posed a trading barrier to many other members.
Also at the center of the 2015 General Assembly were future topics such as the standardization or the increasing internationalization of the security industry.
Concerning standardization, there are some updates of the tool catalogue according to the security standard for safes EN 1143-1. New tools are being considered and existing tools revaluated.
Highly debated this year were the different certification standards as with fire protection, for example. ESSA indicates that there are enormous differences within the standards, and that producers and customers should familiarize themselves with them. The world-wide accepted certification body ECB issues the ECB•S certificate to light fire storage units for example only according to the European standard EN 15659.
Furthermore, this year’s meeting confirmed the Executive Committee in office. The chairman office will stay with Harald Lüling, Myriam Bevillon will stay as his deputy. All other board members were confirmed in their offices, too.
“Our General Assembly has given us some good tailwinds for our activities”, says managing director, Dr. Markus Heering. “International topics will be at the heart of our activities.” The ESSA association counts 139 members from 36 countries. This means more than a threefold increase of members within the last ten years. Roughly 100 members come from countries of the European Union.
