Iraq, Afghanistan Veterans of America, Rep. Steve Knight Support Zadroga Bill
Parker Waichman LLP applauds Congressman Steve Knight and Iraq Afghanistan Veterans of America for their support of the James Zadroga 9/11 Reauthorization Act. The Bill, co-sponsored by a bipartisan group of lawmakers, seeks to permanently extend Zadroga benefits to ailing 9/11 responders and survivors.
(firmenpresse) - Parker Waichman LLP, a national law firm that has spent many years fighting to ensure that the heroes of the 9/11 terrorist attacks are never forgotten, comments that the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act is gaining support. The firm salutes Congressman Steve Knight (Republican-California) for recently joining as a cosponsor of the bill. Parker Waichman also applauds Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) for their support of Zadroga reauthorization. According to [Citizens for the Extension of the Zadroga Act](http://www.renew911health.org/news-articles-on-effort-to-renew-the-911-health-and-compensation-act/), IAVA announced its support at a press conference at the House Triangle this week. The group joins Representatives Carolyn B. Maloney (Democrat-New York), Jerrold Nadler (Democrat-New York), Peter King (Republican-New York), along with Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (Democrat-New York) and Charles Schumer (Democrat-New York).
Parker Waichman comments that the Zadroga Act provides crucial benefits to responders and survivors. When the Act was signed into law in early 2011, it created the World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program and the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF). The WTC Health Program, which provides medical treatment and monitoring, expired on September 30th; the program will run on cash reserves until next year when benefits end entirely. More than 33,000 people receive medical treatment through the program and more than 70,000 are being monitored. The VCF, which provides compensation, will expire next fall if Congress does not take action.
The reauthorization bill seeks to permanently renew Zadroga benefits for responders and survivors. €œIf the Zadroga Act is not reauthorized, many sick 9/11 heroes will be left without the benefits they need and deserve,€ said Matthew J. McCauley, Senior Litigation Counsel at the firm. €œCongress needs to take action now if they want to save lives.€Â
Parker Waichman actively worked toward the 2010 passage of the Zadroga Act, including taking part in lobbying efforts and trips to the nation''s capital, often along with the firm''s clients€”other responders and survivors. Parker Waichman continues today to fight for permanent extension of the Act, taking part in numerous lobbying efforts and being part of delegations. In fact, Mr. McCauley attended this week''s event.
The firm continues to support the Zadroga Act and remains dedicated to fighting for the rights of responders and survivors. In fact, Parker Waichman was recently involved in the €œTake Action€ tool that allows responders, survivors, and advocates the ability to review Congress members'' activities concerning the upcoming expiration of the James Zadroga Act. Parker Waichman assisted with the research on, and creation of, the Tool, which may be accessed at: [Renew 911 Health Organization''s website](http://www.renew911health.org/coalition-organizations/).
Parker Waichman continues to fight, alongside Ground Zero first responders, survivors, and advocates, to help ensure passage of Zadroga Act amendments, and vows to continue its efforts to safeguard these heroes and ensure all of the Zadroga Act compensation deserved is received.
