LUCOM Mobile Communications Router: Interruption-free Switch to IP Technology

(PresseBox) -
Phase-out of traditional analog and ISDN phone connections to be completed by 2018.
IP communications to replace (CSD) dialup
LUCOM mobile router offers modem emulation for efficient, low-cost switch to IP network
The phase-out of traditional GSM dialup systems is already underway and will be completed latest by 2018. This means that industrial facilities which have until now relied on dialup lines will no longer function normally if they do not switch to IP-based technology. This changeover is often a cost-intensive affair that can be fraught with problems. M2M specialist LUCOM GmbH, a member company of exceet Group, now offers technology enabling an easy and low-cost switch to IP because it emulates the legacy system. A LUCOM mobile communications router thus ensures continuous, hitch-free operation of industrial facilities.
All LUCOM mobile communications routers are manufactured in Europe in line with maximum quality requirements. Additionally, LUCOM customers benefit from competent and personal support services ?Made in Germany?
Industrial facilities that have previously relied on dialup lines for M2M communication need seamless availability of transmission technology to prevent downtimes. They may use devices that communicate via AT commands and rely e.g. on CSD calls via mobile serial modems. As a rule, such devices cannot be readily configured for an IP connection. Emulation using a LUCOM mobile router can greatly simplify the change process.
1:1 replacement thanks to legacy system emulation
With its modem emulator, LUCOM offers a simple and low-cost alternative to complicated conversion processes and expensive restructuring of data communications system: Emulation of the legacy system makes 1:1 replacement possible. The technology replaces the previous dialup lines by providing IP connectivity, ensuring problem-free continuous operation of industrial facilities. The modem emulator replaces mobile communication modems as well as analog and ISDN modems.

How the solution works
Existing equipment like SPS, remote controls, transport equipment, energy systems and vending machines continues to operate normally, without any additional configuration. The external modem of an existing setup is simply replaced by the modem emulator. Since this simulates a modem dialup line, all AT commands are registered as usual and all serial data can be transparently transmitted via IP. Compared to the previous system, the technology can also cut costs because it uses TCP/IP communication instead of the traditional, more expensive EDI system.
Mobile communications router for modem emulation
?For several decades, we have been developing and marketing products for flexible and secure communication between machines, facilities, control centers and entire networks. We therefore have extensive expertise in all the relevant fields of application?, says Jens Hilgner, Product Manager at LUCOM GmbH. ?Our modem emulator router was designed specifically to facilitate the switch to IP networks, and the software has been optimized accordingly. In addition, the modem emulator comes complete with a highly user-friendly, easy-to-configure web interface.?
At this year?s SPS IPC Drives expo, set to take place in Nuremberg from Nov. 24-26, LUCOM will showcase the modem emulator router in Hall 7, Booth 690.
