Blizzard will no longer show wow subscriber number
Every three months, Blizzard typically announces World of Warcraft subscriber numbers in its quarterly earnings report, but this practice was being disappearing since November 3 when the latest report was announced. The company has confirmed that this week''s report of 5.5 million (down slightly from 5.6 million in Q2) subscribers is their last time to show those numbers. Instead, Activision Blizzard will use other “engagement” metrics to show out the health of WoW.
"Note that this is the last quarter that we plan to provide subscriber numbers," the company said. "There are other metrics that are better indicators of the overall Blizzard business performance."
Wow legion expansion may bring back some players
History shows that WoW subscribers always get an increase with the release of a new expansion. Though now it is nine-year low with only 5.5 million subscribers, it may not be surprising that this number can see a boost with the latest expansion, Legion. This new expansion will include new features such as new Demon Hunter hero class, customizable artifact weapons, class order halls, and new raids and dungeons. Though no release date for the expansion has been announced, players can expect to learn more about Legion in Blizzcon that will be held later this week from November 6 to November 7.
It seems that World of Warcraft has lost so many players during this year. Still, the report states that wow remains the number one subscription-base MMORPG among the whole world, so it is not denied that wow is still worth playing.
