Record 1,000 Attendees Expected at Pequot Museum's Fourth Annual "Honoring the Veterans Powwow"

(firmenpresse) - MASHANTUCKET, CT -- (Marketwired) -- 11/04/15 -- The announced today it is hosting the fourth annual "Honoring the Veterans Powwow" on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at its state-of-the-art, 308,000-square-foot located on the scenic Pequot Reservation. More than 1,000 veterans, active-duty service members and their families are expected to attend the unique gathering, designed to unite and honor the Native and non-Native Americans who bravely served side by side in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Indigenous populations have played a vital role in the U.S. military for more than 200 years, comprising by far the highest per-capita commitment of any ethnic group. Through their shared, steadfast commitment to the warrior culture, Natives and non-Natives have forged unyielding bonds with one another, and this powwow serves to honor their united sacrifices and service.

Event and museum admission and lunch are free to all veterans and active-duty military with a valid ID, and non-Native American veterans will be recognized and encouraged to participate in programs throughout the day. Master of Ceremonies and former military commander, Boye Ladd, Sr., of New Mexico and member of the Ho Chunk and Zuni Nations, will officiate the powwow.

"Honoring the Veterans Powwow" attendees will:

Be immersed in breathtaking performances, dazzling regalia and traditional music as 100 dancers and three drumming groups compete inside the museum''s two-story, glass-encased gathering space.

Indulge in tantalizing Native menu items crafted by acclaimed Mashpee Wampanoag chef Sherry Pocknett, executive chef of the museum''s restaurant.

Enjoy a shopping experience like no other, with 15 vendors from Northeastern regional tribes showcasing one-of-a-kind handcrafted jewelry, leather goods, quill work, baskets, flutes, clothing and more.
