United Airlines Joins the Reusable Bags Movement with Eco-Friendly Upcycled Bags
An industry professional is congratulating United Airlines for their high profile action that brings the importance of reusable tote bags into the spotlight.
(firmenpresse) - An industry professional is congratulating United Airlines on its decision to join the eco-friendly green tote bags movement. Earlier this month, the international airline announced the results of a challenge the company made to design students at Columbia College Chicago Department of Fashion Studies: to design a line of eco-friendly carry-on bags utilizing fabric from banners promoting the airline at Chicago''s O''Hare Airport.
A spokesman for the company, which imports and distributes a line of eco-friendly tote bags from LA POP DESIGN that can be used as reusable shopping bags, says, €œUnited''s high profile action is one way to boost the visibility and use of reusable fabric bags for all sorts of uses."
The airline partnered with the college and the Re:new Project, a non-profit organization that provides employment opportunities for refugee women. Re:new employees will make the bags designed by the Columbia College students. In addition, proceeds from the project will benefit the nonprofit and the Alto Mayo Forest Carbon Project in Northern Peru.
€œUnited''s decision to upcycle their signs rather than consigning them to a landfill is a very visible sign that the reusable bag movement is really coming into its own," said a spokesperson for the company. €œEach year, millions of plastic grocery bags end up in landfills, littering the roadside or fouling our oceans. United Airlines challenged the students to design bags that will meet the specifications for carry-on luggage, part of a trend of reusable bags designed for a specific purpose. The company''s bags, on the other hand, are designed to be used in a variety of ways, including as reusable shopping bags. To meet that end, the spokesperson said, they''re made of a lightweight fabric that easily folds into a compact package and store in their own attached pouches.
