(firmenpresse) - CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -- (Marketwired) -- 10/19/15 -- Stanley Martin Homes is excited to announce that it has recorded its first-ever HERS rating in the 20s. The new model home in Charlottesville''s Westlake Hill at Foothill Crossing achieved a 29 on the Home Energy Rating System Index, signifying Stanley Martin''s supreme commitment to energy efficiency. The Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index is the industry standard by which a home''s energy efficiency is measured. It''s also the nationally recognized system for inspecting and calculating a home''s energy performance.

This new home is not only more energy efficient than any that came before; it is the first to feature a 5.2 kilowatt hour (kWh) Sigora Solar power plant on the roof, which enables prospective Virginia homebuyers to save money on energy costs while sustaining the environment and shaping the future.

Sigora also offers eight- and up to 12-kWh solar system installations, now available for customization with the purchase of a Stanley Martin home in the company''s Charlottesville Division.

"Overall, I believe that the time has come for solar," said Drew Holzwarth, President of the Southern Region at Stanley Martin Homes. "We get it. Energy efficient construction has grown, and will continue to grow in importance among the minds of Stanley Martin homebuyers, and so it''s for that reason that we''re furthering our commitment to green living every day."

Stanley Martin Homes builds Green Living homes that deliver more value to homeowners, with features designed to maintain comfort while maximizing sustainability.
