A leading international vascular support company has released the following free report in support of the latest breakthrough in vascular research. Read more here.

(firmenpresse) - A revolutionary new study, published in the journal Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, takes previous research to a new plateau that may provide greater insight into the association of psoriasis and vascular disease.

Previously, researchers have linked psoriasis with an elevated risk of heart attack and stroke, including heart disease-related death. This new study provides a breakthrough in the discovery of an association between psoriasis and blood vessel inflammation.

Recently the pioneering research €“ possibly the first of its kind to analyze whether psoriasis severity influences inflammation of blood vessels €“ concluded €œAs the amount of psoriasis increases, the amount of blood vessel inflammation increases€ according to Dr. Nehal Mehta who is the senior investigator with the U.S. National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.

The study involved comparisons between 60 adults who have psoriasis and 20 participants who are psoriasis free, all were approximately 40 years old and had a low risk for heart disease. Psoriasis severity ranged from mild, with minimal patches covering less than 3% of their body, to those participants who suffered patches on more than 10% of their body, which was described as severe. Surprisingly, all psoriasis stricken participants presented elevated inflammation levels in their blood vessels, regardless of the severity of lesion coverage.

The research findings have also led to a shift in the way mild psoriasis is treated. Michael Siegel, director of research programs at the National Psoriasis Foundation, advises everyone with psoriasis to take the disease seriously and treat it appropriately, stressing the importance, €œThere are systemic consequences to psoriasis and people with severe disease need to seek the most effective treatment possible. Even mild psoriasis carries a risk for heart problems.€
