(firmenpresse) - In a remarkable story of endurance and motivation, 81 year-old Tom Cawood and his wife have set out on a landmark 3,000-mile journey to raise funds for veterans, cancer survivors and a national mission initiative. They are admirably funding their own costs personally, as well.
Mr. Cawood''s trek has gained an impressive amount of national attention due to the length of the journey, in addition to an obvious and astounding factor -- his age. However, his surprising choice of transportation for the incredible expedition -- a bicycle €“ has also helped in raising awareness for the honorable cause. The trip has been dubbed €œPedaling for a Purpose" and Tom has even found time and energy to talk openly about life after cancer in appearances at several YMCA events across the US, in his travels.
Mr. and Mrs. Cawood set out together on their 24th anniversary, August 17th, to travel across eight states, with Tom on his bicycle, and Mrs. Cawood, Pat, following in a motor-home support vehicle. They began in San Diego California, and set their sights on St. Augustine, Florida.
The fascinating couple are now on the last leg of their incredible and successful voyage. Tom reflects, saying, €œThere were times we thought this would never occur. We''re so short in the completion of our trip €“ feels great. It was much more difficult than I thought it would be. But yet, very gratifying to know we''re still able to do that. I have a philosophy: Life is like water skiing. If you go down, you go down. No matter what you can never give up on life, you should live it to the fullest.
The Cawoods ask that donations to support their mission be sent to the Disabled American Veterans, Live Strong at the YMCA, and the North American Mission Board, NAMB.
Bob Mackiver, a spokesperson for a well-known natural health and wellness company who supports longevity and research for a cure to cancer and other deadly and disabling diseases, responded to news of Tom''s ability to take on such a miraculous fete. €œLongevity and health should be part of life''s journey and we should all expect, even at 81-years of age, that can only be contributed to the success and well-being of others. This company commends and applauds Mr. and Mrs. Cawood, and encourage them to continue to raise awareness and to speak out on these worthy causes that inspire people of all ages to make a positive difference their lives and the lives of others."
