(firmenpresse) - A progressive new study, published in the Journal of Nutrition, examined the relationship between amino acids cardiovascular health. This research focused on direct measures of vascular arterial stiffness, central blood pressure, and atherosclerosis.
The remarkable research authors were affiliated with the Department of Nutrition, Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia, Norwich, United Kingdom and the Department of Twin Research and Genetic Epidemiology at King''s College London. Their method used a cross-sectional study of participants -- 1,898 twins, who were all female and between the ages of 18 and 75 years. The participants were surveyed through a food-frequency questionnaire about the intake of amino acids in their diets.
Specific direct measures of arterial stiffness, and atherosclerosis involved central systolic blood pressure, cSBP, mean arterial pressure, MAP, augmentation index, AI, pulse wave velocity, PWV, and intima media thickness, IMT, were used. The measurements were then unbiasedly evaluated through the standard linear assessment model ANCOVA -- in the effort to deduct associations between the participant''s consumption of amino acids and their vascular measurement readings.
The research results underwent €œmultivariable analyses" and €œthere was significant interaction between AA intake and protein source, and higher intake of AAs from vegetable sources was associated with lower central blood pressure and AI", according to the research document.
Striking evidence in the results lead to the researcher''s published conclusion that suggests that specific amino acids, AAs, are linked with cardiovascular benefits beyond blood pressure decreases in women who are generally healthy. In fact, €œThe magnitude of the observed associations was similar to those previously reported for other lifestyle factors. AAs could be an important and readily achievable way to reduce cardiovascular disease risk."
