At that rate, if the door and installation costs $1,689, then a person could expect $1,560 in resale value. A new, steel front door can bring in nearly 90 percent resale value.

"The most common remodeling project is the kitchen," said Michael Stoskopf, CEO of Home Builders Association of Southeast Michigan, sponsor of the Novi Home Remodeling Show. "A major kitchen remodel falls right in the middle of return on investment because many people tend to design their kitchen around what is attractive and important to their family, as opposed to remodeling for potential buyers," Stoskopf explained.
