As with most other aspects of our lives, the ways in which we read books have undergone radical changes in the past few years. International Read an eBook Day is a celebration of modern storytelling. Readers around the globe are encouraged to take part by sharing what they are reading and how they are celebrating on a variety of social media channels. Public libraries are helping to celebrate International Read an eBook Day. Traditionally, libraries have served communities with reading materials of all kinds, and today, it is one of the most significant places to discover and read eBooks and other digital content. Public library customers have borrowed 109 million eBooks and audiobooks in 2015 (through August 31), a 23 percent increase over the same period in 2014.
"Cleveland Public Library was the first library in the country to add eBooks to its collection," said Cleveland Public Library Executive Director and Public Library Association President-elect Felton Thomas, Jr. "We see the popularity of eBooks continue to increase as our patrons shift to reading on a variety of mobile devices."
International Read an eBook Day occurs during Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when the and public libraries nationwide encourage every student to get the most important school supply of all -- a free library card.
