Industry Leaders to Highlight Manufacturing Tactics

(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwired) -- 09/03/15 -- The 9th Annual , taking place in Washington, DC, September 29th-October 2nd will highlight a wide range of new technologies and scientific breakthroughs in algae production systems in the Engineering and Analysis track. Through more than 30 presentations, leading scientists, researchers, and industry innovators will discuss papers and offer presentations on the new methods for analyzing and producing algae-based products such as fuels, animal feed, Omega-3 fatty acids, bioplastics, chemicals and more.

"The impressive advancements in cultivation, processing and usage of algae that will be on display at the Algae Biomass Summit in Washington, DC will bring greater efficiency and productivity to an increasingly important industry," said Al Darzins, Program Chair for the Algae Biomass Summit. "A wide range of industrial and consumer markets, including energy, agriculture, nutrition and materials, will benefit from the advances in algae engineering and analysis that will appear at the Summit."

A few of the leaders sharing insights of their operations at the Summit include:

, Los Alamos National Laboratory
Multi-Scale Characterization of Improved Algae Strains

, Subitec GmbH
Governing exponential growth rates of high density microalgae culture by automated adjustment of aeration in flat panel airlift photobioreactors

, Utah State University
Economic Feasibility and Life Cycle Impact of a Turf-Scrubber Based Biorefinery

, California Polytechnic State University
Toward Scale-up of Biofuel Production and Wastewater Treatment using Microalgae

, Chalmers University of Technology
PH-Shift Processing of Nannochloropsis Oculata Microalgal Biomass to Obtain a Protein-Enriched Food or Feed Ingredient

, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
National Supply Curves for Algae Biomass: Resource-based Co-location

These speakers will be supplemented by dozens of other presentations in the Summit''s Engineering and Analysis track, one of four tracks, plus plenary sessions and posters, which comprise the agenda for the Algae Biomass Summit, the world''s largest conference focused on algae-based technologies. In total, there are expected to be more than 100 live presentations during the Summit. In addition to being the headquarters of the Algae Biomass Organization, Washington, DC is a major hub for both the investment and policies that will influence the future of this growing industry.

The Summit comes to Washington, DC at a time when the industry has witnessed some very important recent funding opportunities for algae and is now seeing more algae companies successfully moving their laboratory breakthroughs into the marketplace. Many companies are making new algae-derived products available to consumers or opening large-scale demonstration and pre-commercial facilities, with expectations for expansion in the future. ABO members are also ramping up outreach to national and state policymakers as they advocate for extended advanced biofuels tax credits, aggressive research and development, and strong support for Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) technologies that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create valuable products.
