Well Completion refers to the well activities of making the well capable of production. It primarily involves the conditioning the well bottom to the required specification. Principally well completion incorporates steps like running the production casing and tubing, perforation, assembling sand control systems(gravel packing, screens),placing liner and installing well head equipment (production tree),this may also involve bottom hole production cementing.
Well completion equipment enables the process of well completion. Well head equipment are installed on the surface of the well which serve as main pressure control equipment and connection to the bottom hole as the casing strings are suspended. Tubing hanger provides main support to the production tubing and is situated in the well head assembly. Production tubing runs from the tubing hanger to the production zone and provides the main conduit for the oil and gas from the production zone to surface. Packer is placed near the foot of the tubing, above the production zone and isolates the annulus between the production zone and production tubing and casing.
Perforation guns are used to punch holes in production tubing and casing to provide path for reservoir fluids to flow into the tubing. Intelligent well equipment like temperature and pressure sensors, transmission systems and remote control systems are integrated with other well completion equipment to minimize completion fluid and reservoir fluid losses, maintain well integrity, and maximize production and mange reservoir.
