(firmenpresse) - Business Continuity and Backup Networks Benefit from Unique Software Feature
Friedrichshafen, February 14, 2007 – ND SatCom, an SES ASTRA company and a leading global supplier of satellite-based broadband VSAT, broadcast, government and defence communication network solutions, recently upgraded its core technology platform SkyWAN® with Load Balancing, a new software feature which is unique in the international VSAT market for IP data traffic. With this Load Balancing feature, ND SatCom strengthens its position as a star, hybrid and leading mesh VSAT network solution provider. Dr. Gerhard Bommas, CTO and Managing Director of ND SatCom, states: “Load Balancing definitely enhances our telecoms & enterprise and government solutions. When it comes to corporate business continuity and backup networks, the maximum availability and reliability of a network is key, especially for disaster management. ND SatCom’s Load Balancing also eases the seamless integration with terrestrial networks.”

Load Balancing further improves the outstanding dynamic resource allocation of SkyWAN®. In the case of a heavy load on a certain frequency channel, part of the IP traffic is transferred to alternative frequency channels. This maximizes bandwidth efficiency and enables the balanced utilization of available frequency channels for one destination. The system automatically detects transmission impairments on frequency channels and redirects the traffic. Dr. Gerhard Bommas emphasizes that the standard SkyWAN® Load Balancing feature will support a more efficient allocation of resources for network operators such as VSAT service providers. Load Balancing frees the network operator from sophisticated traffic engineering tasks. The operator only has to define equal cost routes and the available frequency channels on which load balancing shall be performed for the given IP destination.
