(firmenpresse) - EMERYVILLE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/19/15 -- and jointly announced today that CDP has approved SCS as an accredited U.S. Consultancy Partner. In this capacity, SCS will use its expertise to assist companies in their efforts to disclose their carbon footprint and other climate change data to CDP. In addition, SCS will consult with reporting entities to identify the best options for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and improving their CDP scores.

"We welcome SCS Global Services as our newest U.S. Consultancy Partner," said Paul Robins, Head of Partnerships at CDP. "SCS'' expertise in climate assessment and diverse industry experience will be highly beneficial to CDP responding companies."

SCS has been providing carbon footprint and assessment services for over twenty years, working with clients across a wide range of natural resource, agricultural, and manufactured goods sectors. Its services include carbon footprint assessment and verification, carbon offset credit validation and verification, GHG reduction and related climate mitigation guidance, sustainability consulting, and life cycle assessment (LCA), including assessment of co-benefits and tradeoffs. SCS is unique among service providers in its ability to evaluate climate impacts beyond those associated with the standard greenhouse gases (GHGs) addressed under the Kyoto Protocol. For instance, SCS evaluates the effects of short-lived climate pollutants such as black carbon, and emissions influencing regional hot spots around the globe. Its expanded assessment capability enables companies and other entities to more comprehensively and cost-effectively realize their sustainability goals.

"Recognition by CDP as a U.S. Consultancy Partner represents an important expansion of our suite of services aimed at helping companies and other entities play a decisive role in combatting climate change," said Tobias Schultz, SCS Manager of Environmental Sustainability Services. As a U.S. Consultancy Partner to CDP, SCS is positioned to provide assistance in a number of ways, such as the completion of CDP questionnaires, collection of data, review of reports, calculation of carbon footprints, identification of major emission sources, and identification of mitigation opportunities.

CDP''s climate change program works to reduce GHG emissions and mitigate climate change risk through greater corporate awareness and effective management. Climate change data are obtained for over 5,000 companies on behalf of more than 800 institutional investors to be used in financial decision makers in their investment, lending, and insurance analysis. By disclosing their impacts on the environment and natural resources, companies are better able to understand how to protect themselves from the impacts of climate change and become more energy efficient.

SCS Global Services has been providing global leadership in third-party environmental and sustainability certification, auditing, testing, and standards development for more than three decades. Programs span a cross-section of industries, recognizing achievements in green building, manufacturing, food and agriculture, forestry, and more.
