Public Service Announcement: Soldiers Training in the Fjord
(firmenpresse) - CFB VALCARTIER, QUEBEC -- (Marketwired) -- 08/14/15 -- Saguenay residents and anyone passing through the area may notice a group of about 30 infantry soldiers taking part in training between Tadoussac and Ile Saint-Louis from August 17 to 21. The soldiers, who are from 2 Battalion Royal 22e Regiment, will be wearing green camouflage uniforms but will not be armed. During their training, they will cover 27.5 km on foot and 42 km on the water.
The soldiers will begin their training with a hike along the Saguenay River, leaving Tadoussac on August 17 and arriving at Au Sommet du Fjord campground at Anse-a-Pierrot on August 18. The following day, they will board inflatable boats and travel upriver to Anse des Ilets rouges, where they will set up an austere camp. On August 20, back on the water, they will circumnavigate Ile Saint-Louis before returning to Anse-a-Pierrot. The excursion will wind up on August 21, when the soldiers disembark at the municipal beach in Tadoussac.
One of the goals of this training is to build physical and mental resilience, which are important components of battle-readiness for soldiers. The choice of an unfamiliar location far from Valcartier adds to the complexity of the training.
